A nickname, and a promise.
"Gorda's" is a common Hispanic nickname — this one given to our founder, Elsie, by her mother. It reflects her passionate nature, especially when it comes to food: a passion that inspired this business in the kitchen, and recalls the quality time spent with family.
Elsie Hasting
Born in Callao, Peru, Elsie moved to the U.S. at 18 months old and grew up in Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia, learning to cook from her mother in a traditional Hispanic household.
A family health crisis in December 2021 led Elsie to reevaluate traditional recipes and explore plant-based ingredients and dietary adjustments — a journey that led her to develop her own Peruvian alfajores, and eventually launch Gorda's Goodies, LLC.
